1666: Amsterdam is built on Unreal Engine 5 with ray tracing required, which makes it one of the most demanding indies on the 2026 calendar. Here are the official minimums, the recommended range, and how to check your own rig.

Ray Tracing Required (8GB) is listed on the Steam page — this is a hard floor. GPUs without hardware ray tracing or with less than 8 GB of VRAM will not meet the minimum.

How to check your own PC
- Ray tracing first. If your GPU lacks hardware ray tracing, you don't meet the minimum — no setting will fix that.
- VRAM second. The requirement is 8 GB VRAM minimum; 12 GB for the recommended tier.
- SSD space. You need 50 GB free on an SSD, not a mechanical drive.
- Windows 10 64-bit. The game is Windows-only; macOS and Linux are not officially supported.
Upscaler support (DLSS / FSR) has not been confirmed ahead of launch — expect it in the EA build's graphics options or patch notes.
Specs and compatibility questions
Can I run 1666: Amsterdam?
Check three things: Windows 10 64-bit, a GPU with hardware ray tracing and at least 8 GB of VRAM, and 50 GB of free SSD space. The minimum CPU is an i7-10700K or Ryzen 5 3600 with 16 GB RAM.
Is ray tracing required?
Yes. The Steam page lists 'Ray Tracing Required (8GB)'. Non-RT GPUs won't meet the minimum.
How much storage does it need?
50 GB of SSD storage. An SSD is required, not optional.
Does it run on Steam Deck?
No. Steam Deck is not supported at Early Access launch, and the 8 GB VRAM ray-tracing floor makes the base Deck an unlikely fit.
Does it run on macOS or Linux?
Officially no — the system requirements call for 64-bit Windows 10 or later. Linux may work via Proton/Steam Play only as an unsupported community path.
Does it support DLSS or FSR?
Not confirmed ahead of launch. Panache hasn't published upscaler details; expect them in the EA build's graphics options or patch notes.
Why do RAM requirements differ between sources?
Some listings show 16 GB for both minimum and recommended; one preview lists 32 GB recommended. Treat 16 GB as the confirmed minimum and expect the recommended tier to be 16-32 GB.
